Driving from Erlanger to our office
About 9 road miles, and 17 to 25 minutes depending on when you leave. We're at 5302 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051, on Madison Pike (KY 17 Business) in the center of town, a short distance from the Kenton County Courthouse. There's no single straight road between the two towns; you change roads a few times, and that's where the minutes go.
From the Erlanger Municipal Center or Railroad Depot Park, figure the middle of that range. From Elsmere, around Elsmere City Hall or Howell Elementary, Dixie Highway (US 25) is close by and makes a fair second route.
Same-day emergency dental care for Erlanger patients
Monday and Wednesday we're in from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Tuesday and Thursday we're in from 9:00 AM through 6:00 PM. Each open day has three emergency slots set aside, at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Call once we open and tell the front desk what's going on. One of those times is held for you. If all three are spoken for by the time you reach us, we book you into the earliest slot on the next day we're open.
We don't take walk-ins. Please call first. Parking is on site.
An exam and X-rays start the visit. If the diagnosis allows, treatment happens in the same appointment. Severe tooth pain is traced to the tooth causing it and treated. A tooth that can't be saved comes out with an emergency extraction, simple or surgical. A dental abscess is drained and the infection cleaned out.
What an emergency dental visit costs for Erlanger patients
Patients paying without insurance pay $89 for the emergency exam and the X-rays needed to diagnose the tooth. Treatment is a separate line, quoted to you in writing before we begin.
PPO dental insurance and most traditional dental insurance plans are accepted. When you have PPO or traditional dental insurance, the exam and X-rays are charged to your plan. Call with your card handy and we check before you arrive. Cherry, LendingClub and CareCredit can be used for treatment costs. The cost and insurance page fills in the details.

After hours for Erlanger patients
We're closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Even so, the phone is staffed around the clock. During office hours that's our front desk; outside them it's an answering service. Call (859) 555-0147 when the tooth starts. Whoever answers writes down your name, your number and what's happening, then holds you the first opening. After a Thursday evening, Friday, Saturday or Sunday call, that's Monday at 9:00 AM. After a Monday evening call, it's Tuesday at 9:00 AM. For getting through the hours before that, see our weekend and after-hours page.
Some problems can't wait for an appointment. Swelling that's creeping toward the eye or down along the neck, a hard time swallowing or breathing, or a jaw you think is broken: those need an emergency room tonight. St. Elizabeth Edgewood on Medical Village Drive and St. Elizabeth Florence on Houston Road are the two hospital emergency rooms closest to where we are. Hospitals treat spreading infection and injuries; they generally don't treat the tooth itself. Afterward, the tooth still needs a dentist, and that's us; call when you're able.
Emergency dental services for Erlanger families
A hit at a Lloyd Memorial game or a fall off a bike at Silver Lake Park can cost a tooth, and an Erlanger family gets the same care in our office as a family from down the street. A knocked-out tooth is repositioned and splinted when it can be saved, as long as it gets to us quickly, in the socket or in milk. A broken or chipped tooth is smoothed, filled or crowned when the tooth can be kept. Wisdom tooth pain is examined the same day you call, and when a wisdom tooth has to come out, we handle the wisdom tooth extraction ourselves. An infected tooth that can be saved gets an emergency root canal. A lost filling or crown is replaced or re-cemented.
Erlanger and Elsmere are both on our service area page, with the miles and minutes for every community we serve.
Frequently asked questions
Can I handle the call in Spanish?
Yes. During office hours, Monday through Thursday, our office staff speak Spanish. You can explain the problem, ask about the $89 exam and go over your insurance in Spanish when you call (859) 555-0147. This site is also available in Spanish.
Should I take Turkeyfoot Road or Dixie Highway from Erlanger?
From most of Erlanger, Turkeyfoot Road (KY 1303) south is the direct way: it becomes Bristow Road and meets Independence Road (KY 2045). From Elsmere, Dixie Highway (US 25) south to Mount Zion Road (KY 536), then east, is about as quick. Either way, plan on 17 to 25 minutes and call before you leave so your slot is held.
My filling fell out on a Saturday. Do I need the emergency room?
Usually not. A lost filling is uncomfortable rather than dangerous, unless there's swelling, fever or trouble swallowing. Keep the area clean, avoid chewing on that side, and call (859) 555-0147. We're closed Saturday and Sunday, so the answering service holds Monday at 9:00 AM. We replace the filling in our office.
