A tooth that woke you up at 4:00 AM can be looked at today. Call (859) 555-0147 and a real person answers, whatever the hour. Our dentists see emergency patients Monday through Thursday at 5302 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051, on Madison Pike in the center of town, a short distance from the Kenton County Courthouse. Call before you drive over; the phone call is what gets you a time, since walk-ins aren't seen.
The $89 covers the emergency exam and the X-rays needed to diagnose the tooth, for patients paying without insurance. Treatment is priced separately and quoted to you in writing before any work starts.

- Toothache and severe tooth pain, found and treated the same day
- Simple or surgical emergency tooth extraction
- Wisdom tooth pain when a back tooth is pushing, swelling or throbbing
- Emergency wisdom tooth extraction when the tooth needs to come out
- Emergency root canal when an infected nerve is the problem and the tooth can still be kept
- Dental abscess treatment, swollen jaw or face included
- Broken, chipped or fractured tooth repair
- Lost filling or crown, re-cemented or replaced

When a broken tooth can be kept, we can make a CEREC same-day crown in our office and place it in the same visit.
How a same-day emergency visit works
It's three steps, and the first is a phone call.
- Call first. Pick up the phone, dial (859) 555-0147, and tell us what's going on. In office hours the front desk picks up and gives you a time that same day; emergency slots are kept open at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for exactly this reason. After hours an answering service takes your name, a callback number and a sentence or two about the problem, then saves the first opening under your name.
- We hold you a time. Bring a photo ID and, if you carry one, your insurance card. Parking is on site. Arriving a few minutes early gets the short paperwork done before your slot. Even if you're already on Madison Pike, please don't skip the call; a walk-in can't be seen.
- Get treated. Our dentist examines the tooth, walks you through the X-rays and tells you what they found. The treatment price is handed to you in writing. Once you say yes, the work starts.
$89 emergency exam and X-rays
Every visit begins with the $89 emergency exam and the X-rays needed to figure out the tooth. Then our dentist tells you what's wrong and puts a quote for treatment in your hand, in writing. Until you've read it and agreed, nothing is done.
We don't post treatment prices online, because two teeth that hurt the same way can need very different work. The X-ray is what tells us which one you have. Our cost and insurance page explains how a visit is priced, what the exam fee covers, and which kinds of plans we take.
Insurance and payment
We accept PPO dental insurance and most traditional dental insurance plans. On a PPO or traditional dental plan, the exam and X-rays get billed to the plan. Call with your card handy and we check before you arrive.
To spread treatment costs over time, we work with Cherry, LendingClub and CareCredit. Ask on the phone, or at the front desk before treatment begins.
Nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation and IV sedation are available for patients who need help staying calm or comfortable during treatment. Tell us when you call.
Same-day appointments Monday through Thursday
Our office is open Monday and Wednesday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Tuesday and Thursday are our two later days, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Three emergency slots are held on each of those four days.
The office is closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The phone isn't. Call on a Friday night after the Pioneers game, or on a Sunday with a swollen cheek, and a person answers. The service writes down your details and holds the first opening, which is Monday at 9:00 AM. If you call Monday evening, your first opening is Tuesday at 9:00 AM. We say that plainly so you can plan. For getting by overnight, and for knowing when a hospital is the better place to go, see our weekend and after-hours page.

Frequently asked questions
Can I walk in without calling?
No. Walk-ins aren't seen. The 10:00, 12:00 and 3:00 slots are only useful if we know you're on the way, and calling (859) 555-0147 is how we find out. The call takes two or three minutes.
My tooth broke on a Saturday. Now what?
Call anyway. A person answers 24/7. On Saturday that's our answering service, which takes your name, a number and a short note about the problem, then holds Monday's 9:00 AM opening for you. Until then, a drugstore pain reliever taken as the label directs, plus something cold on the outside of the cheek, usually keeps it bearable. Swelling that spreads toward the eye or throat, or trouble breathing or swallowing, means a hospital first.
Will you pull the tooth today?
Yes, when the exam and X-rays point to extraction as the right answer and you've said yes to the written price. Simple and surgical extractions, wisdom teeth included, are done here by our dentists. When the tooth can be saved, we say so.
Is Spanish spoken in your office?
Yes. Monday through Thursday, while the office is open, members of our staff speak Spanish. This site's main pages are in Spanish as well, starting from our Spanish home page.
