Which days is an emergency dentist open in Independence, KY?

Monday through Thursday. We're in the office from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Monday and Wednesday, and from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM on Tuesday and Thursday. On each of those days we keep three slots empty on purpose, at 10:00, 12:00 and 3:00, so a person who wakes up with a bad tooth has somewhere to go. They're held for whoever calls that morning or the night before.

The office is closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but the phone still rings through to a person, and that person holds the first opening for you: Monday at 9:00 AM. More on that below.

How the same-day slots work

The three times are fixed. 10:00 AM is the first. 12:00 PM is the second. 3:00 PM is the last. When you call, the front desk tells you which ones are still open and puts your name on one. If all three are gone, we tell you so and hold the next opening for you.

A few things that help:

  1. Call as early as you can. Slots go in the order calls come in.
  2. Say what's wrong in a sentence. Swelling, a broken edge, a tooth out of its socket: each changes what we prepare.
  3. Have your insurance card nearby. We check it before you arrive.
  4. Come a few minutes early for the short paperwork.

Why call first instead of just driving over?

Because a walk-in can't be seen. Our dentists work by appointment, and the emergency slots only work if we know who's coming and what for. A two-minute call from your kitchen or your truck is what turns a bad morning into an appointment. Showing up without one means a drive home and a call anyway.

What happens at your same-day visit

At your slot time you check in and the dentist sees you. The visit starts with an exam and the X-rays that particular tooth needs. Our dentist goes over them with you and puts the finding in plain words: a cracked root, an abscess, a dying nerve, a filling that fell out.

Then comes the written quote. You see the treatment price before anything is done. Agree to it, and the treatment usually happens right then, in the same chair.

Most same-day visits fall into one of these:

The cost and insurance page covers how each of those is priced and how insurance and financing work here.

After hours, Friday and the weekend

Pick up the phone whenever the tooth acts up. Someone real answers every hour of every day and sets aside the first opening for you. In office hours it's our front desk on the line. Outside them, an answering service answers and jots down your name, a number to call back, and a short note about the tooth. The service doesn't give medical advice. It holds your time.

The honest timing: a call on Monday evening gets Tuesday at 9:00 AM. A call after 6:00 PM Thursday, or any time Friday, Saturday or Sunday, gets Monday at 9:00 AM. Thursday at 6:00 PM is the latest chair time of the week and Monday at 9:00 AM is the first. Our weekend and after-hours page goes through how to manage pain and swelling overnight and across a weekend, plus the signs that mean a hospital instead. Hospitals treat spreading infection and injuries; they generally don't treat the tooth itself.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a same-day emergency?

Pain that keeps you from eating or sleeping, swelling in the gum or face, a tooth that broke or came loose, a lost filling or crown, or a tooth knocked out. If you're not sure, call (859) 555-0147 and describe it.

Can I get the 10:00 AM slot if I call at 9:00?

If it's still open, yes. The front desk is on the phone from 9:00 AM each open day, and slots are given in the order calls come in. If you already know the night before that you need to be seen, call that evening. The answering service writes down what you tell them and reserves the morning's first opening.

Do I have to be an existing patient?

No. Anyone can use the same-day slots, first-time patients included. Bring a photo ID, and your insurance card when you have one. The health history paperwork is done at check-in and doesn't take long.
